#6: I want an Oculus Rift.

Viera High School presents a series of options to view classes and clubs, including my favorite, the Viera High School Instrumental Music page. Much of the information on the site is public, including costs and calendar details, class expectations, photos and videos However, things such as volunteer sheets and addresses are hidden. This site is useful to all grade levels at VHS.

Using technology efficiently in the classroom would be most immediate for finding alternative ways to convey knowledge. Using alternative instruction enforces understanding and secures students in the material.

While, it terrified me, my favorite piece of technology in the Sandbox was the Oculus Rift. I can see where immersion is a PHENOMENAL way to teach information in the literature setting, especially when literature is an immersive experience. Immersive video means looking at the scenes in a novel. For example, a Frankenstein's lab, or Edgar Allen Poe's Tale Tale Heart. The Rift brings to life that which we imagine in our heads!
I would like to see a variation on the types of videos available and how far can the rift go? Can I walk down streets? Can I pick things up? I am excited to see where this technology may lead.

  1. I like your idea for the Oculus Rift in the classroom! I love reading and it would be amazing to see the scenes in 'real life'.

  2. It would be super awesome to see Frankenstein's lab in person! I wonder if there would be a way to have students design their own version of what the lab looks like and view it through an Oculus Rift?

  3. I love the Oculus Rift! I like the way you connected the use of the Oculus Rift in the classroom by related it to literature settings. As a former grade school student, I would have loved to read books and also have a visual of the scenery.

  4. Ha, to be honest I might be too scared to learn Poe through an Oculus Rift, but the literature idea is unique to me. Would they be watching immersive little movies? Or would they be reading the book? Would the book get remixed into an interactive book? I would like that.

  5. The Oculus Rift definitely terrified me too! Your ideas for teaching with it are super unique and will be an amazing teaching and learning experience if that is able to be done.

  6. I think going through the Tell Tale Heart with the Oculus Rift would be great. You would really get the immersion like the character from the poem.

  7. It is very impressive how your link fits so perfectly into your writing. It is aesthetically pleasing. (rather than it looking like a link). Great job girl
